Use cases

  • Know what an item costs with 30% off in a sale.
  • Check what percentage you are really getting from the crossed-out and new prices.
  • Calculate the real effect of “20% off plus an extra 10%”.
  • Find the original price of something you already bought on sale.

Frequently asked questions

How is a discount calculated?

Multiply the price by 1 minus the percentage as a fraction: with 20% off the price is multiplied by 0.8. So 100 becomes 80.

Do two discounts of 20% and 10% add up to 30%?

No. The second applies to the already reduced price, so the total discount is 28%. The tool shows you.

How do I find the percentage off?

With “Find the % off” you enter the original and the sale price; the difference between them is calculated as a percentage of the original.

What if the new price is higher?

Then it is an increase, not a discount, and the tool warns you.

Are my amounts stored?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
