Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
It depends on the country: in the US and Canada 15–20% is standard and practically expected; in much of Europe and Latin America tipping is optional, around 5–10%; in Japan tipping is not customary.
Should the tip be calculated before or after tax?
Etiquette says before tax, although many people tip on the total for convenience. Enter whichever amount you want to use as the base.
How does rounding work?
Each person pays an even amount rounded up to the next whole unit; the difference is added to the tip, so the server never receives less than intended.
