Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF?

A metadata block the camera adds to the image: date and time, device model, shooting settings and, if enabled, the exact GPS location.

Do I lose quality when removing metadata?

No. For JPG, PNG and WebP only the metadata blocks are removed and the pixels stay intact, with no recompression. The color profile is kept.

What about rotated photos?

Some photos display rotated thanks to an EXIF orientation tag. To avoid turning them the wrong way when it is removed, those photos are re-encoded at high quality with the correct rotation applied.

Don’t social networks already strip EXIF?

Many do when you post, but not all of them or in every case (messaging, email, forums, direct downloads). Removing it yourself first is the only guarantee.
