Frequently asked questions
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No. Scans are images and contain no real text; they need OCR (optical character recognition), which this tool does not include. We warn you if we detect pages without text.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Text is extracted in your browser with pdf.js; the document never leaves your device.
What does “Join lines into paragraphs” do?
PDFs store text line by line. This option rebuilds paragraphs by joining lines of the same sentence and restoring words split by a hyphen at the end of a line.
Is formatting and tables preserved?
Only the text is extracted, in reading order. Styles, images and complex tables are not preserved; tables come out as text lines.
